The short version.
healow Genie is eClinicalWorks' native AI phone product. If you are already on eCW and want the most integrated first party solution, it is the obvious pick.
MedPhone is a multi EHR AI phone agent. If you are on athenahealth, ModMed, Dentrix, or NextGen, or you want per practice pricing rather than per seat, MedPhone is likely the better fit.
Both are HIPAA compliant. Both handle appointment booking and refill requests. The differences are in pricing model, EHR coverage, and integration philosophy.

When to pick healow Genie.
- You are already deep in the eClinicalWorks ecosystem and want first party integration.
- You have a small number of seats and high call volume. Genie includes 1,000 minutes with every seat and prices overage at half our rate, so at low seat counts it often works out cheaper.
- You value being on the same vendor stack as your EHR for support and contracting.
That is a real advantage. First party integrations often have the shortest deployment and the tightest support relationship.
When to pick MedPhone.
- You are on athenahealth. MedPhone is live in production there as a verified Marketplace Partner, and healow Genie does not support it at all.
- You have several providers and per seat pricing gets expensive fast. Our price tracks call minutes, not headcount, so adding staff never adds cost.
- You want a single vendor across EHRs because you may expand to multiple systems through a new location, an acquisition, or platform diversification.
- You want the athenahealth Marketplace Partner integration specifically.
Pricing for a typical primary care practice with 5 providers.
healow Genie
5 seats at $299 per month, billed for every provider whether or not they use their minutes.
$17,940 per year
Includes 5,000 minutes a month. Overage above that runs about $0.15 a minute.
MedPhone AI
Enterprise tier plus overage at a typical 4,000 minutes a month. All 5 providers covered, because we do not charge per seat.
$14,400 per year
Adding providers does not change this number. Only call volume does.
The honest caveat: our overage rate is higher than theirs. A practice with one or two seats and heavy call volume will often find healow Genie cheaper, because they bundle minutes with every seat. The math tips toward MedPhone as provider count rises and toward healow Genie as minutes per seat rises. Run both against your own call reports.
If you are already on healow Genie and considering a switch.
- 1Notify healow Genie of contract termination per their agreement.
- 2Sign a BAA with MedPhone.
- 3MedPhone connects to your EHR through the appropriate API.
- 4Two to four weeks of custom call flow setup.
- 5Number port or route through your existing carrier.
- 6Go live. Optionally run in parallel for one week to compare.
Typical reasons practices switch
- Cost got out of hand with per seat pricing as they added providers
- Switched EHR and healow Genie does not support the new one
- Wanted deeper integration on a non eCW EHR

Not yet. The MedPhone eClinicalWorks integration is in active development and no eCW practice is live on it today. MedPhone is live in production on athenahealth. If you are on eCW and want per practice pricing rather than per seat, join the eClinicalWorks list and we will tell you honestly where the build stands.
Yes. Number porting or dual routing during the transition period is standard. Typical migration is two to four weeks with no call downtime.
It depends on your provider count and your call volume. healow Genie prices per seat, so its cost rises with headcount. MedPhone prices on call minutes, so ours does not. MedPhone also charges more per overage minute, which means a small practice with heavy call volume may find healow Genie cheaper. Run both against your own call reports.
